Zoanthids Combo, Zoanthus spp., is a mixed WYSIWYG grouping containing multiple distinct zoanthid color morphs on a single base. This specimen features a dominant group of deep burgundy to red polyps with intense orange-red radial coloration and pale pink-white centers, accompanied by a contrasting group with bright yellow to yellow-green centers, burgundy oral discs, and dark red-purple skirts. The combination creates a dramatic two-tone colony with strong contrast between warm red-orange and fluorescent yellow coloration. Zoanthus polyps grow colonially and are connected by living tissue that can gradually spread across adjacent rockwork. They contain symbiotic photosynthetic dinoflagellates that provide much of their nutritional energy, while the polyps may also capture fine suspended organic material. Because this piece contains multiple color morphs and species-level identification cannot be confirmed from appearance alone, Zoanthus spp. is the most scientifically appropriate designation.

Care Guide: Zoanthus spp. generally perform well under low to moderate reef lighting, although established colonies can tolerate moderately strong lighting when acclimated gradually. Provide low to moderate, variable water movement that helps prevent debris from collecting between the polyps without interfering with full extension. Place on stable rockwork with sufficient room for the different morphs to spread. Maintain stable temperature and salinity along with consistent alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, and phosphate. Most nutritional requirements are supplied through photosynthesis, although very fine suspended foods may provide supplemental nutrition. Zoanthids can contain palytoxin or related compounds, so gloves and eye protection are recommended when handling or fragging, and zoanthid-covered rock should never be boiled or exposed to hot water or steam.
